Oboadaka citizens call for Kindergaten classroom block

Nsawam, Sept 01, GNA-Over 200 kindergaten pupils of Oboadaka, near Nsawam in the Akuapim South District walk about five kilometres to attend classes at a nearby village, Yaw Duodu, due to the absence of a lower primary block in the village. Mr. James Owusu, Secretary for the unit Committee for the town, made this known at a meeting with parents, teachers and School Management Committee to discuss ways to build a classroom block for the pupils. He said the situation has affected the health of children and increased drop-out rate among the children. He hinted that the temporary kindergaten school structure was destroyed last April following a severe rainstorm that hit the town.

Mr Owusu said the people have organised a community harvest which had yielded an amount of 2.5 million cedis, and called for the support of the Ghana Education Service and the District Assembly for the construction of a new classroom block. Mr Shadrack Ofosu, Chairman of the Parent Teacher Association of Oboadaka, told GNA that the future of such children was insecure without quality basic education and therefore could not effectively contribute to the socio-economic development of the country.

Mr. Ofofu called on the National Disaster Mnanagement Organisation (NADMO) and other philanthropists to come to the aid of the town. Nana Owusu, Aknor Odikro of the town commended the people for their public spiritedness toward the development of the area.
