Minister commends Muslim community

Sunyani (B/A) Aug. 28, GNA – Mr. Ignatius Baffour-Awuah, Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister, has commended the Muslim community in Sunyani for their peaceful co-existence with other religious bodies. He noted that the continued existence of such peaceful cooperation between Muslims and Christians in particular would help dispel the negative perception about Zongo communities. Mr. Baffour-Awuah who was interacting with Muslims at the Central Mosque in Sunyani advised the Muslim youth to eschew violent behaviour and rather focus their exuberance towards the development of their communities.

The Regional Minister urged Muslim leaders to take keen interest in the education of their youth to enable them to become useful and responsible citizens. Mr. Baffour-Awuah explained some government policies including the National Health Insurance Scheme, capitation grant and the NEPAD school feeding programmes. He later presented two million cedis to Alhaji Umar Abdul Kadri, Regional Chief Imam and pledged the support of the Regional Coordinating Council towards the completion of the Sunyani Central Mosque project. Alhaji Kadri thanked the Regional Minister for his concern about Zongo communities and expressed the hope that he would continue to help develop Muslim communities.
