NGO screens the aged for blood pressure

Accra, Aug. 21, GNA – Adult Care Mission, a charitable organization in collaboration with HelpAge Ghana, on Monday organized free blood pressure screening exercise for the aged and provided them with health tips to prevent high blood pressure.

Ms Gloria Quist, United States Representative for Adult Care Mission, said the two-day screening exercise was to create awareness on the high rate of BP among the aged and to create understanding that it could only be controlled and not treated completely. Ms Quist said the organization had screened about 2,000 elderly people in Accra and expressed the hope to extend the charity to Mankessim and Saltpond in the Central Region.

She advised the public to desist from habits such as smoking and alcoholism since they could lead to high blood pressure levels and stroke eventually.

Some of the beneficiaries told the GNA that they were happy with the support and appealed to other organizations to also assist the aged in society.

Adult Care is made up of friends and families in both Ghana and the US that provides charity to the aged.
