Chicago Church Gives to Children.

August 20, 2006, Chicago-The annual Bud Billiken parade in Chicago focuses on the importance of education for young people and is billed as the largest back-to-school parade in the United States. Almost a week after this parade and for the first time, the Church of the Ghanaian community of Chicago also held a back to school motivation service for its youth and presented the children with school supplies in a short ceremony at Augustana Lutheran Church.

The items include pens, pencils, notebooks, rulers , crayons etc.

Preaching the sermon, Nana Amofa Kwabiah asked the parents to set good standards for the children to follow.

Brother Gabriel Amoateng-Boahen, a student at Catholic Theological Institute of Chicago led the congregation in prayers for the children and the church.

Blessing the items , elder Kwasi Yeboah ask for the Lord’s guidance and protection for the children during the up coming school year.

Ghana Home page also learnt that in April this year, The Church of the Ghanaian Community of Chicago donated five million cedis to the Catholic University College of Ghana at Sunyani ,in the Brong Ahafo Region of Ghana.

Speaking to Brother Kwamina Sam, the president of the church, he emphasized to Ghana Home Page that the current administration have planned programs that will assist the youth in the church and also draw up programs that will keep them in the house of the Lord. “We shall continue to identify needy institutions in Ghana and extend our support to them” he concluded.
