NDC to choose prez candidate in December

Accra, Aug. 16, GNA – The National Democratic Congress (NDC) would hold a congress to elect its presidential candidate for the Election 2008 on December 16, 2006.

According to the timetable for the election of the candidate released on Wednesday in a press statement signed by Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, General Secretary, nominations would open on August 17 and close on December 2.

The deadline for resignation of persons holding party positions and wishing to contest as candidates or actively campaign for a candidate is September 15.

The statement said nomination forms could be obtained at the office of the General Secretary at the National Secretariat at two million cedis.

“Completed nomination forms must be returned to the General Secretary on or before 1700 hours on December 2, 2006 together with a non-refundable deposit of 100 million cedis,” the statement said. So far, Professor John Evans Atta Mills, Former Vice President and the Party’s candidate in Election 2000 and Election 2004; Mr Eddie Annan, a Businessman and Alhaji Mahama Iddrisu, Former Minister under the Provisional National Defence Council and NDC, have announced their intention to contest for standard bearer.
