Nyinahin (Ash), Aug. 15, GNA – About 118 candidates including 11 women are contesting the 35 electoral seats in the Atwima-Mponua District of Ashanti.
Meanwhile, reports have it that, Mr Hamlet Osei, current Presiding member of the assembly and also assembly member for Osaakrom is the only candidate unopposed.
Mr Owusu Nsiah, the District Electoral Officer, who spoke to the Ghana News Agency on Monday, said this year, while the number of female contestants rose from three to 11, there is a remarkable decrease in the number, as regards the unit committees.
He advised contestants to desist from the use of abusive language and mudslinging, whenever they mounted the platforms to campaign. Mr Nsiah also admonished the electorates to co-operate with the Electoral Commission (EC) for incident-free elections in the district.
