Election droopiness, affront to nation’s democratisation process

Hohoe (V/R), Aug. 10, GNA – Mr George Atsu Egbenunya, an aspirant, contesting the Bla electoral seat in the upcoming District Assembly elections in the Hohoe District on Thursday, warned that the election droopiness being exhibited by legible voters was an affront to the country’s infantile democratisation processes.

He, therefore, called on the Electoral Commission and other stakeholders to correct the worrisome phenomenon, which had a high propensity to truncate “our fledgling democracy, which is a beacon of hope for Africa”.

Mr Egbenunya, who was speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Hohoe suggested that, the number of members of unit committees be reduced to seven from the present 15 people, to inject some innovation and competence at that level, instead of the omnibus structure. He called for financial empowerment for assemblymen to motivate them to deliver.

Mr Egbenunya said his main development agenda, when elected would encompass education, reviving communal spirit, promoting culture and sports, as well as awareness creation on topical national, regional and district level issues.

He pledged to be a loyal liaison between the community and the assembly and discharge his duties without fear or favour. Mr Egbenunya said he availed himself to the task because the people continued to lag behind development and armed with the capacity and zeal to “move things and let things happen”, he decided to contest four others for the slot.
