NUGS fixes date for election new national officers

Accra, AUG 7, GNA – The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) has set up a steering committee to take charge of the affairs of the union and organise a national delegates’ congress to elect a new executive officers for the 2006 and 2007 academic year. The date for the congress is August 11 at the Kumasi Campus of the University of Education, Winneba.

A statement signed by Mr Thomas Arthur, the Chairman of the steering committee, said on Monday that the independent committee comprised two representatives from all blocks within NUGS and four national officers who were not involved in the wrangling within the NUGS.

The statement said the independent committee was also to organise, manage and resolve the pending wrangling within the union. It urged parties involved in the impasse to demonstrate and resolve peace within the student union, adding, “They are required to issue a joint statement to signify their commitment to unity.”
