Nadowli tertiary students to teach in deprived schools during holidays

Nadowli, Aug 4, GNA – Tertiary students in the Nadowli District have undertaken to teach in deprived schools whenever they are on holidays. They have also agreed to carry out periodic visits to all senior and junior secondary schools in the district to acquaint themselves with some of their problems and to seek redress for such problems.

Mr. Chrysantus Suglo, the President of the Nadowli Students’ Union (NADSU), said this during the annual congress of the union at Nadowli. The students carried out a clean-up campaign, visited some schools and the offices of the Nadowli District Education Directorate. Mr Suglo said they had to resort to that method of helping their brothers and sisters because there were no teachers in the area coupled with the perennial poor performance of students in the district. He expressed regret that most teachers posted to the area refused, while those who were at post were not enough to teach the students to pass their final examinations.

The president said during their voluntary teaching, they would also use that period to educate students on course combinations and future careers so that they would be abreast with situations outside their schools.

Wing Commander Eric Dakurah (RTD), the Jirapa/Lambussie District Chief Executive, commended the students for their initiative and unity of purpose.

He said the Assembly would do everything possible to help them to achieve their goals.
