Funds for anniversary celebration will enhance development -Minister

Cape Coast, Aug. 02, GNA – Nana Ato Arthur, Central Regional Minister, on Wednesday said funds earmarked for Ghana’s 50th independence anniversary celebration next year, would be used for projects that would enhance the well being of Ghanaians. He said provision of recreational parks and infrastructure in the education sector and construction of markets would be undertaken throughout the country during the celebration to serve as a legacy for Ghanaians.

Nana Arthur made the observation when inaugurating a 12-member Central Regional Committee to supervise the planning and execution of projects planned for the celebration in the region. The theme for the celebration is “The new Ghana: Championing Africans’ excellence.”

The Central Regional Minister was optimistic that the celebration would be of spiritual significance adding, “It would also be the year for the Lord’s favour and restoration of Ghana’s rightful position in the scheme of affairs.”

He therefore, appealed to members of the committee to ensure judicious use of monies that would be allocated for the regional celebration and evolve effective strategies for the activities and should be devoid of partisan, religious or ethnic considerations. Nana Arthur asked Ghanaians, particularly residents in the region to fully participate in activities drawn for the celebration to succeed.

The committee has Nana Arthur as Chairman and Mr Michael Essandoh, Central Regional Coordinating Director as Secretary. Other members were, Mr Ato Essuman, Central Region representative on the Council of State, Nana Kwamina Ansah IV, President of the Central Regional House of Chiefs, Nana Ama Ayensua Saara III, Queen mother of Denkyira, and Ms Baaba Otoo, a tutor at Mfantsiman Girls Secondary School.
