GES attaches string to accessing Capitation Grant

Ho, Aug 2, GNA – Basic Schools in the Ho Municipality area have been directed to draw and submit their schools’ Performance Improvement Plans to the Municipal Directorate of Education before they can access their Capitation Grant.

Mr Francis Yao Korwu, the Municipal Director of Education, said this at a durbar of parents, pupils and teachers of Kabore Primary School to mark its Open Day on Wednesday.

Mr Korwu said the Capitation Grant required innovative approach to school administration and financial management. He said the introduction of the grant was to ensure equitable access to basic education for all children irrespective of the financial standing of their parents.

Mr Korwu said it was for this reason that government took serious view of any breach of the directives governing the implementation of the Grant.

He said the introduction of the grant did not mean an end to the role of Parent/Teacher Associations, communities and other stakeholders in the development of schools and ensuring quality teaching and learning.

He said the Grant notwithstanding, stakeholders in education at the community/level could institute financial arrangements in support of the schools, except that pupils should not be denied access to school on account of their parents’ failure to honour any fundraising arrangements.

Mr Korwu congratulated Kabore School for being a model of academic excellence in Municipal area.

Mr Anthony Akpabli, the Headmaster of the school, thanked parents for showing keen interest in the development of the school. This has reflected in the excellent performance of pupils in competitive examinations in the Municipality. a As part of the day parents had the opportunity to seek clarification on issues regarding the administration of the school, interacted with class teachers and saw how their wards were faring in class.
