Akyem Swedru, Aug 01, GNA – An Akyem Swedru Circuit Court has sentenced Kwasi Agbesi, a 25-year-old casual worker of Coppon Sawmill, to eight years imprisonment for stealing personal effects valued at four million cedis.
Agbesi pleaded guilty to charges of unlawful entry and stealing. Prosecuting, Police Inspector Charles N. Quaye told the court presided over by Mr Edward Kwame Bosompem Apenkwah that the complainant is a carpenter residing at Akyem Asawase in the Birim South District. He said on December 27, 2005 the complainant left his house for Akyem Oda in the morning leaving behind a friend, one Akomaning. Later in the day Akomaning locked the complainant’s door and travelled to Accra.
The prosecution said when complainant returned to his house in the evening he detected that his door had been forced open and personal items including video deck, sound system, a bag, clothing and a gold necklace all valued at four million cedis stolen.
Inspector Quaye said the complainant suspected Agbesi as the one who might have stolen the items and reported the case to the Akyem Swedru police.
He said after committing the crime, Agbesi went into hiding until he was arrested at Kwahu Tafo on July 21 this year and handed over to the police.
