Public asked to report suspicious persons to police

Tarkwa (W/R), July 27, GNA – The Public has been advised to remain very vigilant and report suspicious and strange persons and vehicles especially during odd hours to the security agencies. This is to ensure that the agencies, particularly the Police, get the clue to the activities of criminals who are trooping to the districts, the Tarkwa District Police Commander, Superintendent Slim Manford has said.

He was inaugurating a 12-member Neighbourhood Watch committee at Kwamen Krom, a suburb of Tarkwa. Supt. Manford commended the Chiefs and the people of the town for the formation of the Committee and urged other communities to emulate them.

He expressed the hope that with the formation of the committee, the citizens would have peace of mind to go about their daily businesses. The District Commander, however, warned the Committee members not to assume the authority of the Police. “Do not impose yourselves on the citizenry and do not molest suspects,” he said, adding that suspects should be handed over to the police for further investigation and trial. He urged the community members to be each other’s keeper to clamp down the activities of criminals.

Members of the Committee were screened for the public in order to drop those found to have questionable characters. They were also taken through the concept of community policing, the principles of crime prevention and community safety.
