Tema Police arrest three for stealing cocoa sacks

Tema, July 22, GNA – The night police cum military patrol team at Tema, in the early hours of Friday, intercepted a taxi loaded with a bundle of jute cocoa sacks stolen from a large consignment being conveyed to Takoradi.

The driver of the cab, Yaw Kese, 27 years old and two other occupants, Baba Yenbillah, 24 and Abduraham Mohammed, 21 were arrested and placed in custody pending prosecution.

The Tema Regional Police Commander, Mr Jonathan Yakubu, said in a statement said the team received a “distress call” that a driver and his mate conveying the consignment from Tema to Takoradi had been attacked by about 10 thieves on the Accra-Tema motorway around 4.00 AM. He said the thieves trailed the vehicle from the point it set of for the journey and went into action at an obscure place but they were arrested.

Mr Yakubu said the bundle contained 340 sacks with the inscription, “Ghana Cocoa Board Product of Ghana” on them. The Regional Commander expressed regret that thieves and armed robbers were tarnishing the image of the country and warned that stringent action would be taken against them, adding that, the Police was wide awake to curb their activities.
