Nyinahin (Ash), July 21, GNA – Mr Solomon Boakye, Atwima-Mponua District Disease Control Officer, has attributed the recent spate of malaria and mortality of children below five years to the failure of communities to keep their environments clean. He said malaria accounted for 44 per cent of all out-patients attendance and 22 per cent of mortality of children below five years in the district.
Mr Boakye was speaking at the launch of this year’s Child Health Week being held under the theme, “Healthy Environment, Healthy Children” at Nyinahin on Wednesday.
He said activities planned for the week were education for mothers and caregivers on home management of fever, promotion and sale of iodated salt, sale of mosquito treated nets and extended programme on immunisation (EPI).
Mr Emmanuel Mensah, the District’s Nutrition Officer, advised parents to supplement their children’s diet with vitamin ‘A’ to protect them from diseases. 21 July 06
