Court orders auctioning of University of Ghana Vehicles

Accra, July 19 GNA – An Accra High Court has ordered the auctioning of 24 vehicles belonging to the University of Ghana to defray the debt owed a former expatriate Lecturer of the Geology Department of the University.

This follows a long legal battle between the University and the Lecturer, who is now domiciled in his home country. The vehicles include buses, mini-buses, pickups, Toyota Land Cruisers, Nissan Patrols and saloon cars.

A visit by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) to the University workshop confirmed the story as many of the vehicles could be seen with red bands either on the side mirrors or the wipers. However, attempts by GNA to get official confirmation from the University authorities proved futile as the Director of Public Affairs was said to be out town and nobody was prepared to talk. The Head of the Geology Department, Dr Asiedu said he was unable to give out any information about the Lecturer because he left the University long before he was employed. He said he had heard about the story but he could not confirm or deny it. Meanwhile, the GNA is frantically checking at the Courts for further information. MORE Later 19 July 06
