Accra, July 19, 2006 – Mr Albert Kan-Dapaah, Minister of the Interior, said on Wednesday that there was the need to strengthen the capacity of the staff through training on policy development in the various sectors of the Ministry for effective implementation of programmes.
Mr Kan-Dapaah, who said this when the Indian High Commissioner, Mr Rajesh N. Prasad called on him in Accra, therefore, called for support from the Government of India to improve the skills of the staffs for effective implementation of policies.
“We see ourselves being (cut) from the day-to-day affairs because we lack the knowledge on how best to implement the policies,” he said. He also called for support for the Police Service and the new Border Patrol Unit of the Immigration Service.
Mr Kan-Dapaah said instructors from India would be brought into the country to help to train the staff saying if three or four received the training they could assist others.
He said India could explore many more areas to assist Ghana in its development efforts.
Mr Prasad said his call was to find out how the two countries could cooperate and gave the assurance that the High Commission would liaise with the Ministry on all the issues discussed.
