Mason on 40 million cedis bail for alleged abduction and defilement

Cape Coast, July 10, GNA- Kwesi Amega, an 18- year old mason was on Monday granted 40 million cedis bail with a surety to be justified by a circuit court at Cape Coast for allegedly abducting and defiling two teenage girls.

Amega who pleaed not guilty would reappear on Monday July 31. Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Augustine Amonoo told the court, presided over by Mr Beresford Acquah, that in May last year, Amega visited his grandmother at Ekumfi Swedru his hometown, where the first victim, a 14 year-old class six pupil also stays.

He said that without the knowledge of her parents, Amega managed to convince the girl to stop schooling and accompany him to Mallam, in Accra, to secure her a job, and she obliged and went with him. He said when they got to Mallam, Amega told her that there was no job for her and instead, promised to marry her and continually defiled her.

Chief Inspector Amonoo further said that anytime the victim, who had then lived with Amega for seven months, wanted to go back to her parents, he refused to give her money for the journey. He said two months later, he locked her up in their room and travelled again to Ekumfi Swedru and lured another girl aged 15, to join the first victim in Accra.

He said the parents of the second girl had a tip-off that she was staying with Amega at Mallam and they traced her there, and also saw the first victim and informed her parents. He said the matter was reported to both the police in Cape Coast and Accra and Amega was arrested.
