President Kufuor arrives from AU Summit

Accra, July 2, GNA – President John Agyekum Kufuor arrived in Accra on Sunday after attending the 7th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Governments of the African Union in Banjul. He was accompanied by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Minister of Foreign Affairs and some senior government officials.

Nana Akufo-Addo told journalists on arrival that serious discussions were held on the need to try former African Heads of State accused of crimes against humanity on the continent.

He said apart from the decision of enhancing Africa’s image by being able to take care of such situations, it also reflected the continent’s disgust at heinous crimes against humanity. Nana Akufo-Addo said Ghana also shared her rich experience in the African Peer Review Mechanism with other African countries. The President was welcomed at the Airport by the Vice President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama, the IGP Mr. Patrick Acheampong, Chief of Defence Staff, Lt. J.B. Danquah and other Service Commanders.
