Tema police to receive assistance.

Tema, July 25, GNA – A number of industries and establishments in Tema have agreed to assist the Tema police to ensure effective policing of the Municipality.

At a meeting held at the Tema Municipal Assembly at the weekend, representatives of 49 industries and establishments asked the Municipal Security Committee to draw up a budget and a list of requirements for them to know how they can assist the police.

It identified transport and communication as the main problems of the police. The meeting, organised by the TMA, also discussed the creation of a security fund, which will be properly managed by a committee set up by the contributors.

Mr Joe Danquah, Tema Regional Police Commander, said the Tema police has only two landrovers for patrol duties which are almost always at the workshop.

The TMA is currently supporting the police with a bus for police night patrols, while it has also given them six ‘motorola’ communication equipment.

Mr Danquah said with the recent rise in armed robbery, there is the need to assist the police. Some of the industrialists suggested to the government to release some of the confiscated vehicles to the police for patrol duties.

They said a percentage of the District Assemblies Common Fund should also be used by the district assemblies to help improve security in their districts.

They also stressed the need to for the security agencies to liaise with the private security agencies and also ensure that they are well trained and armed to operate effectively.
