Accra, June 27, GNA 96 The Accra Metropolitan Authority said on Tuesday it had concluded negotiations with the Oblogo community for the use of the duping site near the community.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Accra, the Special Assistant to the Accra Mayor, Mr Ali Baba Abature said negotiations with the Chief of Oblogo, Nii Kwaku Bibini had been concluded for the continued use of the dumping site located near the community.

He said the AMA had fulfilled all the demands of the Oblogo community, which included the provision of a market; a clinic and access roads, and that the Assembly had further agreed to construct two new housing units for the staff of the clinic, in addition to building new drains and additional access roads for the community. The people of the community had for the past two weeks, refused to allow waste management contactors of the AMA to dump refuse at the dumping site, resulting in huge piles of garbage in many parts of the Metropolis.

Mr Abature said the clearing of the excess garbage would commence tomorrow, Wednesday June 28.

A local waste management company with 25 refuse trucks and 1,000 tricycles had been contracted to help to clear the garbage within a week, he said. 27 June 06
