Fire from cut electric cable destroys building and property

Dordoekope, (VR), June 25, GNA- The property of a family of farmers were totally destroyed by fire caused by a live electric cable which dropped on their two-room thatched residence at Dordoekope near Ada at the weekend.

The house and personal effects such as clothing, an undisclosed amount of money; a push truck, food items and bicycle parts were reduced to ashes by the fire.

The couple, Mr. Deyo Osakonor Doku and his wife, who were away at a funeral at a neighbouring village before the fire are now left with only the attires they put on to the funeral. Their three children have also lost their school uniforms. The family is now putting up with relatives. A source close to the family told the GNA that the two live electric cables got into contact with a low-tension line at about 1230 hours, resulting in a sparkle.

He said the sparkle snapped the cable, one end of which fell on the roofing of the building below, torching it. The source said as all adults in the village were away at a funeral there was little the youngsters could do but watch the building and everything in it burnt to ashes. A section of the community was left with no electric power as result of the incident.
