Man in court for possessing human parts

Accra, June 22, GNA – A Circuit Court in Accra has ordered the arrest of Nana Kwame Boakye, a businessman, who is alleged to have handed over human parts and crocodile bile to a Gardner for ritual purposes. Nana Boakye is at large.

The Gardener, Kwaku Asante, who was carrying the items in a container, was on Thursday admitted to a 100 million cedi with two sureties when he made his second appearance before an Accra Circuit Court. Asante pleaded not guilty to stealing and would reappear on July 24. Asante’s Counsel in a submission for bail told the Court that Boakye owed Asante and framed Asante up as a cover up.

Prosecuting, Police Superintendent Elizabeth Alormatu prayed for a bench warrant to assist the Police apprehend Boakye. Presenting the case of the Prosecution, Supt. Alormatu told the Court that the complainant was a Police officer stationed at Adabraka. She said in May this year, Boakye met Asante at his garden near Awudome cemetery and they later became friends.

Prosecution said during one of their encounters, Boakye told Asante that he could assist him to become rich and Asante, who was desperate to become rich, accepted the offer.

Boakye told Asante to raise some money in order to purchase some items for a ritual in a village near Techiman in the Brong Ahafo Region. This, the Prosecution said, Asante did, adding that soon after collecting the money, Boakye brought a tin containing those items and asked Asante to keep it safe.

On May 21 2006 at about 0630 hours, the Police Officer had a tip off that Asante had in his possession some human parts and a crocodile bile at the O.A Transport Yard at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle and was about to travel to the Ivory Coast. Asante was, therefore, arrested. The Prosecution said further investigations revealed that Boakye after giving the items to Asante informed the Police and escaped. Meanwhile the Prosecution said the items had been sent to a pathologist at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital for examination adding that the Police was making efforts to arrest Boakye.
