MP says politics should be devoid of insults

Hohoe, June 19, GNA – Mr Prince Hayibor, the Member of Parliament for Hohoe North, has said politics was about development and anything short of this constituted mediocrity.

He said different approaches and strategies could be adopted to achieve developmental goals devoid of acrimony, insults and name-calling. Mr Hayibor was speaking on Sunday at a thanksgiving service for Good News Choir of the Hohoe branch of the E. P. Church, Ghana at Hohoe. He said “political games” should be played in a more humane and accepted manner in order not to inflame passions.

The Hohoe North MP said respect for one’s integrity and standing in society should to be revered and protected to “avoid being dragged along into the gutter”.

Mr Hayibor said political parties would come and go but what is important “is we will continue to live as brothers, communities and traditional entities beyond politics”.

Mr John Peter Amewu, the Hohoe District Chief Executive, said the phenomenon to spew out vitriolic attacks on political opponents stemmed from misinformation normally generated by supporters.

He urged politicians to come clear on issues to “avoid poisoning the political atmosphere”, which had a negative repercussion for the maintenance of law and order. Reverend William R Sakoe, Pastor in charge of the Church, appealed to politicians to be circumspect in their quest to canvass for votes and eschew actions that could endanger the peace.
