Criminals who terrorized traders have been arrested

Kumasi, June 16, GNA – Police in Kumasi have arrested three suspected criminals who are believed to have for a period of time been terrorizing traders and residents at the Kumasi Railways. The suspects, who were on Thursday rounded up at the Kumasi Central Police Station for identification by the public include Abdul Karim, 41, Kwame Boateng, 34, and Papa Yaw, 40.

In a briefing with newsmen in Kumasi after the identification parade, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Frank Adu-Poku, Ashanti Regional Police Commander, said the railways area around the central market has in recent time been rendered a “no go” area especially in the evening due to the criminal activities of the suspects. He said the suspects snatched mobile phones, bags and other valuable items belonging to traders and some residents of the metropolis.

ACP Adu-Poku said consequently, his outfit detailed some personnel of the Buffalo Unit of the Police Service to mount surveillance at the area on Wednesday and succeeded in arresting them. He said when they were searched, quantities of dried leaves and white substances suspected to be Indian hemp and cocaine as well as a cutlass; two live cartridges and two pairs of scissors were retrieved from them.

ACP Adu-Poku said the suspects would soon be put before court after police investigations.
