Accra, June 16, GNA – The transaction involving the disposal of the Presidential jet, the Gulf Stream III is expected to come before Parliament for scrutiny.
A statement in Accra said following the interest generated by the disposal of the jet by the Ministry of Defence, the Parliamentary Committee on Defence and Interior met with the Minister of Defence and the High Command of the Ghana Armed Forces on Wednesday, June 7, 2006 for a briefing on the transaction and the intended purchase of four K-8 combat aircraft and a simulator.
The statement, signed by Mr Eugene Atta Agyepong, Chairman of the Committee on Defence and Interior, and released to the press in Parliament, said: “Members of the Committee were comprehensively briefed by the Minister and Chief of Air Staff and also shown the figures relating to the transaction.
“The Committee was also assured that the whole transaction would be brought before Parliament as soon as the transaction is finalized for scrutiny and the necessary action,” the statement said. It said the Standing Orders of Parliament enjoined the Committee “to await the reference of the transaction to Parliament before comments on the issue are made”.
