Baafi initiates self-help electrification project

Baafi (B/A), June 14, GNA – Mr Kwabena Osei Adu-Bofour, Special Assistant to the Minister of Mines and Energy, has said the government would support communities that initiated development programmes.

He was addressing the chiefs and people of Baafi, a farming community in the Nkoranza District, as part of his visit to Nkoranza to conduct a survey into efforts made by communities that had initiated the Self Help Electrification Programme (SHEP).

Mr Adu-Bofour expressed appreciation for the efforts of the people of Baafi in providing low-tension poles for the electrification project. He urged the people to remain united and maintain their self-help and communal labour spirit to attract support from the government and NGOs.

Mr James Kwabena Appiah-Awuah, District Chief Executive, commended the people for initiating the project and said the assembly would support communities that had started power projects. He said such self-help projects would promote the growth of the district because the district assembly alone could not bear all the responsibilities in developing the communities. 14 June 06
