Awutu-Okwabena (C/R), June 13, GNA – Mr Frank Quartey-Papafio, Managing Director of a Software Engineering Company in Accra, has presented a cheque for six million cedis to register and pay the premiums of 70 people under the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Mutual Health Insurance Scheme.
The beneficiaries were selected from three farming communities namely Awutu-Kwao-Kurabi, Awutu-Okwabena and Awutu-Fianko. Nai Kwao Kurabi III, member of the Awutu Traditional Council and the Scheme, received the cheque at Awutu-Okwabena, near Awutu-Bawjiase. Mr Quartey-Papafio said his gesture was to revive the humanitarian spirit and practices that had existed in the past to assist the needy in society.
He pledged to mobilize funds to assist more needy people in rural communities in the district to register with the Scheme. Mr Quartey-Papafio said the gesture would enable the beneficiaries acknowledge the importance of the Scheme designed to provide the citizenry with quality and cost-effective healthcare. Nai Kurabi, asked the youth in the district to undertake farming to supplement assistance provided by donors to improve their standard of living.
On behalf of the beneficiaries and the Scheme, he expressed appreciation to Mr Quartey-Papafio for the gesture and urged more philanthropists to assist the needy in society to achieve the objectives of the Scheme.
Earlier, Mr J.Y. Owusu-Kwarteng, Public Relations Officer of the Scheme, sensitised about 120 people including teachers, pupils and students of Okwabena Junior Secondary and Primary Schools on various aspects of the Scheme.
Mr Owusu-Kwarteng said the Board of Directors and Management of the Scheme would ensure people in the district had access to the Scheme and urged the people to co-operate to ensure maximum success. He said the Scheme had been in operation for nearly six months and most of their clients were accessing healthcare in various Government Health facilities in the District.
