Labourer sentenced for stealing a ram.

Tema, June 13, GNA – Awudu Issah, a labourer who stole a ram valued at 2.5 million cedis at Ashaiman, has been sentenced to one day imprisonment and a fine of one million cedis or in default serve additional six months in jail by the Tema Circuit Court ‘B’. Issah was convicted on his own plea.

Police Chief Inspector Edith Nutakor said Baaba Mohammed, the complainant who rears livestock, opened 80 of sheep and goats to graze on the morning of June 09.

Issah stole the animal and hired a taxi to take it away but the complainant spotted the taxi and wrote down its number. She arrested the taxi driver the following day and handed him over to the police.

The taxi driver told the police that he drove Issah and the animal to Accra and led the police and complainant to the place where they arrested Issah and two others. The prosecutor said Issah admitted the offence and said the two he was sitting with bought the sheep at 500,000 cedis.
