PAAG urges government to resolve TEWU impasse

Kumasi, June 8, GNA – Members of the Polytechnic Administrators Association of Ghana (PAAG), have appealed to the government to expedite action on the resolution of the impasse between it and the polytechnic branch of the Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU) to prevent environmental disasters in the country’s polytechnics.

A statement signed by Mr Korankye Mensah, National President of the Association and issued in Kumasi on Wednesday, said the on-going strike action by the polytechnic branch of TEWU had resulted in a serious environmental problems on polytechnic campuses.

According to the statement, polytechnics were already under staffed, as a result of poor service conditions and the continued strike action by the workers were having serious consequences on staff, who were at post. It said members of the Association would have no option but to stay away from work, if the situation became unbearable.

The statement expressed its displeasure at the continued poor approach of the government in its dealings with the polytechnics, as far as collective bargaining matters were concerned.

It said it would be in the interest of the country, if the polytechnics were treated properly and urged the government to endeavour to resolve the TEWU impasse immediately to avoid further disruption of academic work at the polytechnics.
