400 displaced by floods at Goaso

Goaso (B/A), May 22, GNA – About 400 residents of Manhyia, a suburb of Goaso in the Asunafo District of Brong-Ahafo were at the weekend rendered homeless by floods following a torrential rainfall that lasted several hours.

The floods occurred when River Goa over-flowed its banks and caused immense damage to about 50 houses and property worth millions of cedis. The displaced residents have appealed to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) to come to their aid as many of them are putting up with relatives and friends.

Meanwhile, Alhaji Ishaak Abubakar Bonsu, District Chief Executive and some chiefs and elders of Goaso have gone to console the affected persons.

The DCE gave the assurance that the Assembly would do it best to provide immediate shelter for the victims. He advised the residents living near the river but were lucky not to have been affected by the floods to pack bag and baggage and leave the area to avoid the floods as the rains had just started.
