Policeman kills suspected armed robber

Accra, May 20, GNA – A suspected armed robber was shot dead in the early hours of Saturday at Kotobabi in Accra by a policeman, a police source has said.

An officer in-charge at the Kotobabi Police station, who was reluctant to comment on the incident, told the Ghana News Agency that the case had been transferred to the Accra Regional Police Command. He said the incident occurred between midnight and 0100 hours on Saturday and that the body of the deceased had been deposited at the Police Hospital in Accra.

A large crowd, mostly the youth in Kotobabi area had besieged the Police station in the morning in protest of the killing and demanded that the police handover the body of the deceased to the family. The father of the deceased who was also at the station, appealed for calm until the police come out with the finding of their investigation.

At the Regional Police Command, police officers on duty directed the GNA to contact the Commander, saying he was the only person who could comment on the case. The Commander was however not available immediately.
