LEGON, MAY 18, GNA – The University of Ghana Legon is to reduce its intake for the 2006/2007 Academic year by almost 20 per cent. The University is admitting a total of 6,500 students out of the over 18,000 applications received as compared to 8,500 students admitted for the 2005/2006 academic year.
Mr Enoch A. Amartey, Acting Director of the Academic Affairs Directorate, told GNA that the cut off points for the various programmes were Aggregate 13 for Physical and Mathematical Sciences and Aggregate 17 for Agricultural Science.
For Administration, Mr Amartey said the cut-off points were Aggregate seven for those without Elective Mathematics while the cut off point for students in the Humanities was Aggregate 16 and nine for Business and Home Economics Students.
On the University=92s policy of admitting 60 per cent of students into Science programmes and 40 into Humanities, Mr Amartey said even though the number of Science students admitted increased from 800 to over 1,200, the University had not been able to effectively implement the policy due to lack facilities.
Mr Amartey gave the assurance that the University would start dispatching admission letters by Monday, May 22, 2006 with the approval of the fee schedule for next academic year by the Council of the University.
