NPP denies calling meeting to select Kufuor’s running mate

Accra, July 15, GNA – The New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Thursday said it has never called a meeting to select a running mate for Mr John Agyekum Kufuor, the party’s presidential candidate for the 2000 elections.

“The fact of the matter is that no meeting has ever been called for the selection of a running mate”, a press release from NPP signed by Mr Dan Botwe, General Secretary, said.

It said their constitution states that “the party’s presidential candidate shall, in consultation with the National Executive Committee, nominate his running mate”.

“The defined procedure shall be our guide, when the time comes to choose a running mate and in our scheme of things as of now, this exercise cannot be our topmost priority and we shall not be pushed into making a hasty decision.”
