Unemployed jailed two and half years for assault and stealing

Tema, May 16, GNA – Abraham Akwamatey, unemployed was on Monday sentenced to two-and-a-half years in jail for assaulting a naval officer and stealing his mobile phone.

He was convicted on his own plea to two counts of assault and stealing by the Tema Circuit Court ‘B’.

Inspector Ben Agbedanu told the court that on April 22, the tyre of a motorbike POI Andzie Benjamin was riding burst and after replacing the tyre he felt the need to attend to the nature’s call. He enquired for the nearest place of convenience and was directed to a nearby bush.

Inspector Agbedanu said he met Akwamatey and one Akorletey now at large who beckoned him to get nearer to them if he wanted to attend nature’s call.

When he got close to Akwamatey and the friend, they attacked him with a knife and a piece of wood and took his camera mobile phone. He lodged a complain with the police and on May 06, the complainant, together with other navy personnel, arrested the convict at Tema Manhean and handed him over to the police.

Akwamatey led the police to one Regina Zotovie, Akorletey’s fianc=E9e, to retrieve the mobile phone that has its camera malfunctioning and the chip replaced.
