Wa, May 12, GNA – Plan Ghana International, a British Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) has increased its initial funding of 2.3 million dollars from 2001 to nine million dollars this year. In addition, projects being undertaken by the NGO that started in the Sissala East and West Districts have also been extended to Wa Municipality, Wa West and East districts.

Mr Amadou Bochum, out-going Country Director of the NGO, announced these at Wa on Thursday during a farewell call on Mr Ambrose Dery, Upper West Regional Minister.

He said the projects would be focused on the construction of schools, irrigation dams, roads and provision of school furniture, playing equipment, meals for school children and capacity building. Mr Bochum commended Government for the political commitment that had enhanced socio-economic development in the country, adding; “I would continue to recommend Ghana for other NGOs to assist because of the economic and political stability in the country.”

Mr Dery commended efforts of Plan Ghana towards capacity building for children and adults to become conscious of their rights and responsibilities in the region.

He said the NGO also supplemented Government’s efforts with the provision of schools, irrigation dams and other equipment that attracted many children to attend school and increased enrolment. The Regional Minister appealed to beneficiary assemblies to cooperate with officials of the NGO to derive full benefits of the projects. Present were the Municipal and District chief Executives from Wa Municipal, Wa East and West, Sissala East and West.
