SSNIT increases rents by 100 per cent

Koforidua, May 07, GNA – The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has increased the rent for its residential apartments by 100 per cent with effect from May 01, 2006.

The rent for the SSNIT Adweso flats in Koforidua has been increased from 150,000 cedis a month to 300,000 cedis while those at the Koforidua Old Estate area has been increased from 125,000 cedis to 250,000 cedis.

Mr Richard Kelson, the Estate Manager of the Eastern Regional Secretariat of SSNIT, said this at a meeting with the members of the Adweso SSNIT Flats Residents Association at Adweso, near Koforidua on Sunday.

He said the decision of management of SSNIT to increase the rent by 100 per cent was taken two years ago but its implementation was suspended and that the new rents could affect the value of SSNIT houses that are yet to be sold out.

The residents complained about persistent switching off of streetlights in the area, the delay in the removal of the refuse containers by the New Juaben Municipal Assembly and said this posed serious health problem to the residents. 07 May 06
