Internal Revenue Service gets new Commissioner

Accra, May 5, GNA – The President, in consultation with the Revenue Agencies Governing Board (RAGB) and the Public Services Commission, has appointed Major (Rtd) Daniel Sowah Ablorh-Quarcoo, a Chartered Management Accountant, as Commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

Major (Rtd) Ablorh-Quarcoo replaces Mrs Janet Opoku-Acheampong who retired a little over a year ago, a statement from the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning said on Friday.

The statement signed by Nana Juabeng-Boiaten Siroboe, Acting Chief Director, said until his appointment, Major Ablorh-Quarcoo was a member of the Board of Unique Trust Financial Services Ltd, Director of Cocoa Inputs Company Ltd and Chief Executive of Allied Cocoa Products Ltd, producers of Broma Natural Cocoa Powder.

Major (Rtd) Ablorh-Quarcoo assumes office on Monday, May 8. He graduated with a B. Sc (Admin) degree in Accounting at the University of Ghana, Legon in 1974 and thereafter enlisted in the Ghana Armed Forces as an Officer Cadet in April 1975.

He was commissioned Lieutenant in November the same year and held various appointments in the Ghana Armed Forces during his 12 years service including Armed Forces Cashier and GAFI Accountant. He did further training at the Royal Army Pay Corps Training School at Worthy Down in the UK and successfully completed the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants examinations in November 1982. He became a full member of the Institute in 1985.

After leaving the Armed Forces at the end of his short service commission in 1987, Major Ablorh-Quarcoo joined the Ghana Cocoa Board as Management Accountant and rose to the position of Director of Finance prior to leaving the Board.
