Gilchrist Olympio relaxes on entering Lome

Aflao (V/R), April 27, GNA – Exiled Togolese opposition politician, Gilchrist Olympio entered his home country through the Aflao border on Wednesday in a relaxed mood.

The tight security, which characterized Olympio’s previous visits to his home country was absent, as Togo’s side of the border remained opened with free movement of people to and fro.

Olympio, who is the leader of the Union of Forces of Change (UFC) was taken through entry formalities at the Togo side with ease and was received by some of his enthusiastic supporters.

His free entry appeared to have been timed to coincide with that country’s independence anniversary celebration won under his father’s leadership 46 years ago on April 27, 1960.

Olympio is also expected to participate in the proposed reconciliation talks in his country, which is to be chaired by Mr Yaovi Agboyibor, another stalwart opposition leader.
