Ho Nurses join strike action

Ho, April 24, GNA – Nurses and paramedical staff at the Municipal and Regional hospitals in Ho on Monday joined the strike action embarked upon by their colleagues in other parts of the country. Only doctors are at post at the two public health facilities in the municipality.

When the Ghana News Agency visited the facilities between 1000 hours and 1100 all new patients were being turned away as the 24-hour revenue collection units were closed. Patients with the National Health Insurance Card at the Regional Hospital whom the GNA talked to were not sure of their fate as the officer at the desk said she had been ordered to hold on with the service.

Mr Alex Amemu, Administrator of the Regional Hospital who confirmed the strike action in an interview with the GNA, said some nurses were still working. 24 April 2006
