Eighteen candidates absent themselves from BECE at Nkawkaw

Nkawkaw, April 24, GNA – Eighteen out of 1,426 candidates who registered to write this year’s Basic School Certificate Examination (BECE) at four centres at Nkawkaw in the Kwahu West District failed to turn up on Monday.

They were made up of 10 girls and eight boys. Head-teachers of the various schools and Supervisors at the centres could not give reasons for their absence.

During a tour of some of the centres, the District Director of Education, Mr Seth Koranteng, advised the Supervisors and Invigilators to ensure proper supervision to avoid examination malpractices that could affect the future of the candidates. He said 2,150 candidates registered for the examination in the district.

In the Kwahu South District, 2,340 candidates made up of 1,296 men and 1,044 girls registered to write the examination. The District Director of Education, Mr James Nii Okaija Dinsey, who inspected some of the examination centres said they realized that there were no answer sheets for the English objective paper at Fodoa centre therefore, he contacted the West African Examination Council (WAEC) in Accra and was advised to allow the candidates to cycle the answers on the question paper.

He advised the candidates to eschew all forms of examination malpractices and occultism and endeavour to answer the questions correctly to enable them pass the examination to further their education.
