Bellview Plane Detained Over Unpaid Bills

A Boeing 737?200 aircraft belonging to Bellview Airlines, which was on a scheduled flight from Lagos en route to Monrovia, Liberia, was yesterday morning refused take-off for about four hours by the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) for non-payment of navigational and airport service charges.

Among the passengers on board were the Cuban Ambassador in Accra, Professor Lucas Domingo Hernandez Polledo, and a Special Adviser to the President of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The airplane arrived in Accra at 7.15 am and was scheduled to take off for Monrovia at 7.40 am, but just as passengers in Accra were about to board, it was announced that there would be a delay.

The country manager of the airline, Mr Semi-Awe, who was at the airport, admitted that there was an outstanding payment to be made to GCAA.
