B/A Regional Hospital records 34 births during Easter

Sunyani (B/A), April 19, GNA – The Brong Ahafo Regional Hospital in Sunyani recorded 34 deliveries during the Easter festivities. Madam Grace Seidu, Principal Midwifery Superintendent, who disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency on behalf of the Supervisor of the Labour Ward Unit, Madam Mary Boakye, said 18 out of the number were males and 16 females. Madam Seidu said nine births were recorded on Good Friday, eight on Holy Saturday, whilst there were nine deliveries on Sunday, the resurrection day.

She said eight new babies arrived on Easter Monday and they and their mothers had since been discharged. The Principal Midwifery Superintendent advised would-be mothers, who had not yet registered with the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to do so, because those, who had registered, had it easy in the settlement of their bills.

“Those who had not, had it difficult paying their bills, especially those, who went through Caesarean operation”, she added. Madam Seidu appealed to the government to consider other personnel in the health sector as the proposed new salary structure for the sector seemed to favour only doctors.

Most of the nurses were seen going about their normal duties but wearing red bands to register their displeasure at what they termed discrimination by the government. She said even though they had not decided to embark on a strike action, as they pitied the numerous patients, they were issuing a warning to the government that if their demands were not met they would advise themselves.
