Rainstorm destroys property

Ayerkokoso (E/R), April 18, GNA – Thirty-one houses had their roofs ripped off and more than 70 people were rendered homeless by a rainstorm which hit Ayerkokoso and its surrounding villages in the Suhum/Kraboa/Coaltar district at the weekend.

Property estimated at more than 50 million cedis was destroyed. The storm also caused injuries to some of the occupants of the affected houses.

The Assemblyman for the area, Mr Ernest Akufo, told the Ghana News Agency that the storm lasted for about two hours, and left in its wake damaged structures including the newly-constructed market at Ayekokoso, the Pentecost Church, the Presbyterian Church and the chief’s palace. He said some of the affected victims were putting up with friends and relatives and appealed to the district assembly and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) to come to their aid.
