Six suspected mobile phone snatchers arrested

Mpraeso, April 17, GNA – The Police at Mpraeso has arrested six people, including a woman, for allegedly snatching mobile phones during the Easter festivities at Mpraeso and Obomeng in the Kwahu South District.

The police retrieved 12 mobile phones without chips from the suspects, whose names were being withheld for security reasons. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Mpraeso, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Ben Wonkyi, Mpraeso District Police Commander, said following complaints that some people had their mobile phones snatched by members of a syndicate, the police conducted a swoop on a house at Mpraeso where the 12 mobile phones were retrieved from the six suspects in their rooms.

He said it was detected that there were no chips in the phones with the exception of two, which they suspected the snatchers removed the chips after snatching them from their owners. The District Police Commander said some people reported to the police about their stolen mobile phones when they heard of the arrest of the suspects but were told to bring receipts of their phones for inspection.

He said the suspects would be prosecuted after investigations.
