Atito, (V/R) April 15, GNA-A group of eight medical doctors on Easter recess in their hometowns in the Keta District on Friday undertook a free screening and treatment of ailing people Atito. Nurses and other auxiliary health personnel from health institutions in the district assisted them.
About 500 people from Alakple, Kodzi, Fiaxor, Latame, Deta, which formed Anlo-Kome received treatment for hypertension, musculo-skeletal problems (waist and bodily pains), sight problems, malaria, worms and other infections.
Mobilization for the exercise cost five million cedis while drugs cost ten million cedis.
Citizens and friends of Atito resident in the US, who in collaboration with the chiefs and the Atito Youth Organization established the Annual Kome Health Fair, planned to coincide with Easter activities, financed the purchase of the drugs.
Dr. Atsu Seake-Kwawu, Keta District Director of Health Services, who led the team cautioned the people to moderate the intake of fats and exercise regularly.
He advised them to visit health facilities for regular check-ups and also told them to keep a clean environment.
Dr. Seake-Kwawu also asked the community to collaborate to build a permanent Community Health Centre of the area.
Mr. Kofi Humado, Member of Parliament (MP) of the area who donated two million cedis towards the programme, appealed to people to avoid tension in their families, saying such stresses often led to high blood pressure, which was on the increase amomg Ghanaians. Mr Kofi Ahiabor, Keta DCE, who asked for the sustenance of the annual Health Fair, said the assembly supports 20 health students annually to offset the shortfall of nurses in the district. He advised the people to keep away from HIV/AIDS, join the health insurance schemes and also endeavour to use toilet facilities provided for the communities.
Togbe Xemalordzo Dedu II, Dufia of Atito called for the construction of culverts on the roads to re-link streams whose flow were interrupted to improve the movement and growth of fishes in the rivers in the area.
Togbe Yador Development Chief of Atito residents in the US promised that citizens of the area resident abroad would continue to support development projects at home and urged those at home to complement those efforts. Treated mosquito nets were sold at subsidized prices at the ceremony.
