N/R Health Directorate embarks on Tetanus campaign

Tamale, April 11, GNA – The Northern Regional Health Directorate has embarked on maternal and neo-natal tetanus elimination campaign among females in the region.

Under the campaign, females between the ages of 12 and 49 years would be immunised against the disease.

In a statement issued and copied to the GNA on Tuesday in Tamale, Dr. Akwasi Twumasi, a Senior Medical Officer in-charge of Primary Health said an 11-member committee would be set up to sensitize community members in the region about the disease to ensure the success of the programme.

He called on the general public, especially young girls to co-operate with members of the committee and get themselves immunised. Dr. Twumasi noted that it has been the wish of the Ghana Health Service to eliminate maternal and ne-onatal tetanus in the country and this had necessitate the Northern Regional Health Director to embark on a supplementary immunisation activity among females.
