Last DCE for Upper West confirmed

Tumu, (U/W), April, 6 GNA – The Upper West Region has its full complement of eight Municipal and District Chief Executives after almost a year and half into the second term of the New Patriotic Party Administration.

This was due partly to objections, bickering, undermining and eventual rejection that characterised the nomination and confirmation process of some of the nominees.

In an election conducted by the Electoral Commission at Tumu on Wednesday, Mr Solomon Salia Mwangu polled 20 out of the 21 votes cast to get his nomination confirmed as the DCE of the Sissala East District. The previous nominee, Mr Ahmed B. Issah of the Volta River Authority was rejected outright in the first confirmation election. As fate would have it, the newly confirmed DCE was the first person to be nominated as DCE for Sissala East, but for unexplained reasons a vote on his confirmation never took place and he was replaced by Mr Issah, only to be re-nominated after Mr Issa had been rejected.

Speaking after the confirmation, Mr Ambrose Dery, Upper West Regional Minister, asked the new DCE to live up tom expectation since President John Agyekum Kufuor reposed his confidence in him. The new DCE appealed to all the Assembly Members to put their differences aside so that they could collectively work to speed up the development of the District.

He said in spite of the fact that the Assembly was the last to get its DCE confirmed; much could be achieved if they worked in unity and in peace.

Mr Moses Dani Baah, MP for Sissala East, and Deputy Minister of Private Sector Development and President’s Special Initiative was present.
