Akrofuom citizens abroad donate to health centre

Akrofuom (Ash), April 5, GNA – Two citizens of Akrofuom in the Adansi South district of Ashanti resident abroad have donated hospital equipment, computers and accessories to the Akrofuom Health Centre and some schools in the area.

Dr Jacob Afoakwa, who resides in Glasgow, Scotland donated 22 hospital beds and three trolleys valued at 130 million cedis to the maternity wing of the health centre while Mr Bobby Micah, who is resident in Canada, donated 20 computers, accessories and a scanner to the schools and some other institutions.

Handing over the items at Akrofuom on behalf of Nana Abena Durowaah, Queen Mother of Akrofuom who solicited for them, Nana Asare Bediako, Ahenemahene of Akrofuom, said one of the objectives of the Queen Mother was to promote the health of the people because no meaningful development could take place without good health. He said Nana Durowaah particularly wanted to equip the maternity unit of the health centre, which had not been operational due to the lack of equipment.

The donation, he said was therefore a dream come true for Nana Durowaah and she commended Dr Afoakwa and his wife for their assistance and expressed appreciation to Dr Osei Somuah, the Obuasi Municipal Director of Health Services for his singular efforts to help the community especially during the clearance of the items. On his part, Mr Micah said he was assisting schools in the country through a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) called Third World Educational Foundation of which he was the founder and president. He said about 300 computers had so far been distributed to schools including Adonten Secondary School at Aburi and Saint Monica’s Secondary School at Asante-Mampong.

Mr Daniel Kusi Amankwah, the Adansi South District Director of Health Services who received the items, commended the Queen Mother and Mr Micah for their patriotism. 05 April 06
