Sunyani Polytechnic student commits suicide

Tepa-Ashanti, April 02, GNA – A first-year student of Sunyani Polytechnic, Peter Amofa, 20, last Wednesday, March 29 allegedly committed suicide in his father’s bedroom at Agya Nsiakrom near Asuhyiae in the Ahafo-Ano North District of Ashanti.

Two suspects Mr Samuel Nsia, father of the deceased, and Mr Daniel Agyarkwah, Mr Nsia’s friend, who were initially arrested in connection with the death of the deceased, were granted police bail on Friday March 31 after post-mortem examination on the deceased at Tepa District hospital had confirmed the cause of death.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, Police Inspector D.O. Amankwah said the police had information that the deceased shot himself in the morning after complaining to his father that something was worrying him. He said at the scene, the police found the body lying in a supine position in his father’s bedroom with part of his intestine gushing out and a single barrel shot gun with an empty shell in the chamber lying beside the deceased on a bed.

Police Inspector Amankwah said after preliminary investigation, the corpse was deposited at the hospital for autopsy.
